Mazda Ends the RX-8 Run with Special-Edition Spirit R

With the RX-8 lineup coming to an end, Mazda will be releasing its final special-edition RX-8 Spirit R. Not a whole lot changed compared to the last model, but the Spirit R does come with a luxurious new look. With three new color options: Aluminum Metallic, Sparkling Black Mica, and Crystal White Pear Mica, combined with bronze alloy wheels gives the RX-8 a slightly more lavish appearance. Other changes to the design include red and black, specially made SPIRIT R bucket seats by RECARO.
As far as performance goes, a lot is unchanged. The 4-door, 4-seat Mazda RX-8 Spirit R is based on the RX-8 Type RS and E and comes available with either a 6-speed auto transmission or a more expensive 6-speed stick shift. Safety, however, gets an advancement in the form of a comprehensive front-side and curtain SRS airbag system.
While the Mazda RX-8 family might be seeing its last successor, Mazda is far from saying goodbye to innovative technologies and new vehicle production. With the new CX-5 compact crossover coming soon, its rumored to be released with super-strength steel. The 1,800 MPA steel produces the same sturdy parts but at a much lighter and cost-friendly weight.
"Although RX-8 production is ending, the rotary engine will always represent the spirit of Mazda and Mazda remains committed to its ongoing development,"1 said Mazda President and CEO Takashi Yamanouchi.
The special-edition Mazda RX-8 Spirit R will only be available in Japan, from November 2011 until June 2012. However, Dahl Mazda, at 712 4th Street South La Crosse, WI, has plenty of other new Mazda models for you to look at. Feel free to stop in. And, be sure to stay tuned - we are dedicated to bringing you all the latest Mazda news!
